Meet Beth
Portland Metro Birth Doula
Beth’s Approach to Doula Work
Beth is a lifelong lover of all things related to birth and babies. She strives to bring an open mind and empathy to each family she encounters. She is thankful that she can serve her community in this way, and is passionate about making doula care available to all birthing individuals and families. All births are sacred, and deserving of support.
Beth brings a calm steady presence, expertise, joy, and a sense of humor to each birth she attends. She approaches birth from the standpoint that your body was made to give birth. She knows if you are supported, heard, understood, and validated that you are more likely to have a positive birth experience.
Beth has both professional and lived experience with high-risk pregnancies, 35+ age, gender non-conforming, and underrepresented individuals. She has significant experience working with folks in recovery, and individuals who are neurodivergent.
Beth is an Oregon Health Authority Certified THW doula, which includes additional training in trauma-informed care, cultural competency, and first aid/CPR. She also holds a degree in early childhood education. Beth has a wide variety of experience supporting birthing families in the Portland Metro Area and has attended births in hospitals, birth centers, and home births.
Beth’s Background
Beth attended her first birth at the age of 21 and never looked back. She believes that supporting families is her calling, and has had the pleasure of working with families in many different ways over the years. She was a preschool teacher for 20 years, a behavioral aid for children on the autism spectrum, and a respite foster care provider. She also has been active in the adoption community helping to match adoptive families with birth mothers.
Beth grew up in Southern CA and has now called Portland home for the last 25 years. Her own family has come together through infertility, miscarriage, a domestic adoption, and international adoption, and was completed by a surprise pregnancy at age 44. Beth hopes that her journey to build her family can encourage other families to never give up on building their own family of their dreams.
Beth is a mother of 3 kids, ages 7, 12, and 16. She and her husband are busy parenting the wide age range with gentleness, humor, and the trust that they are doing their best, even when it’s chaos! Beth loves her two pups more than most things. Tux, a Boston terrier, and Molasses, a not-too-bright basset hound. Free time is not too easy to come by, but Beth loves to knit cute baby clothes, go junk store shopping, and take care of her vast collection of house plants. Over 200 and counting…
