Jacky’s Approach to Doula Work

Jacky is a passionate reproductive justice advocate, and a certified birth doula and peer wellness specialist. Their goal is to help people have safe and dignified births, and believes in empowering people with information, self-advocacy skills, and confidence in the innate abilities of their own bodies. Jacky loves meeting and learning from new people, and would be honored to support you during your pregnancy, birth, and transition to parenthood.

As your doula, Jacky will provide emotional and physical support to you and your family and will work hard to make sure all your needs are met. They have training in a variety of comfort measures and labor techniques, and can support your partner and family members in engaging more fully in the process. They have studied hypnobirthing, and believe strongly that birth does not have to be painful. They will guide you to learn techniques that will allow you to relax deeply and have a comfortable - even enjoyable - birth!

In the past year and a half that they have been working as a doula, Jacky has had incredibly fulfilling experiences that affirmed their choice to commit wholeheartedly to this work. Jacky has experience at the birth center, the hospital, and transfers, as well as medicated and unmedicated births, and will provide judgement-free support alongside any choices you make for you and your baby.

As a member of the queer community, Jacky is knowledgeable and is excited to support clients of all genders, sexualities, and family structures. They also have deep respect and understanding for neurodivergent people, and can adapt to different communication styles and sensory needs. Jacky originally got into this work because they believe strongly in reproductive justice and love being able to use their unique skills and knowledge to support diverse members of our community.

Jacky’s Background

Outside of being a doula, Jacky currently works at a preschool, and has found a passion in youth development. They are also a deeply committed community organizer fighting for climate justice and community resilience. They have been doing this work for the past five years and love the connections and community that it has brought to their life. They have engaged in local political campaigns and social justice efforts in the area, and would be happy to share more about this if you’re interested! They care deeply about building strong community and connection for adults and children alike, and plan to have and raise their own children in a deeply rooted community.

Jacky loves gardening and drinking tea, and has been learning about herbalism recently. They participate in a variety of earth-based rituals and spiritual practices, and would be happy to guide you to center your birth in ritual and ceremony. Jacky feels deeply connected to their body and community, and is always looking for more ways to integrate connection into their birth work.
