Kate’s Approach to Doula Work
Kate believes in meeting families where they are while also providing practical, realistic, evidence-based information to help them feel prepared to make any and all decisions confidently. Kate believes in approaching birth with curiosity and wonder for what may unfold and using the information and wisdom you have learned along the way to guide your choices.
Kate's individualized practice focuses on each family's unique needs and dynamics. She has extensive experience with supporting spontaneous and assisted vaginal births, inductions, and cesareans both planned and unplanned and enjoys working with people who are eager to learn about and engage with their amazing birthing body.
Kate’s Background
Kate has a BS in Sociology & English from the University of Oregon and certified with DONA in 2009. She was an independent doula for 6 years with Portland Doula Love and Mother Tree Birth, and from 2015-2020 Kate worked alongside the Providence Women's Clinic midwives as a staff doula at Providence Portland Medical Center.
Kate has also worked as a breastfeeding peer counselor for Clackamas County WIC (2010-2015) and for many years in early childhood education. She currently works as a patient liaison for Providence Women's Clinic, as an independent childbirth educator, and doula mentor, and is pursuing her Masters in Infant/Toddler Mental Health at PSU.
The great loves of Kate's life are her two daughters, cats, and R.E.M. She is the parent of a hilarious and brilliant teenager studying Japanese and art at PCC and an ex-pat attending university for Linguistics in Bangor, Wales, UK. She currently has 3 cats, a chihuahua/Parson Russell terrier mix, and an albino butter corn snake. She regularly attends live music performances, mostly following local musicians in the R.E.M. circle. She grew up in Newtown, CT and Memphis, TN and moved quite a bit as a young adult around the northeast and southern US, finding her home in Oregon in 2002.
