Meet Mari
Seattle Metro Birth and Postpartum Doula
Mari’s Approach to Doula Work
Mariana (Mari) relocated to Seattle from Brazil in February 2019. It was during this life changing transition she learned about what a doula was. She immediately felt a deep connection in her soul and knew that supporting families during the perinatal period is what she was meant to do. Doula care brings together her background as a clinical psychologist in Brazil and her new found passion for supporting families through the perinatal period.
Mari is a non judgmental, flexible, respectful doula and loves to support families going through the transition to parenthood. Her main goal is that my clients feel safe with me and when I achieve that is when I’m most happy in my doula life.
During Mari’s transition to parenthood over 20 years ago she found herself lacking the type of information and support that she desired. As a birth and postpartum doula she prioritizes providing her clients with evidenced based information, culturally appropriate care and knowledge of informed consent.
Mari’s Background
Mari was a clinical psychologist in her home Country of Brazil for 24 years. In 2019 her husband was offered a transfer in his job to Seattle. As a psychologist she had the opportunity of supporting people through challenging moments, transitions and changes in their lives. Her work as a doula allows her to continue to do the work she loves but in a different way.
Being from South America comes with an ancestral knowledge from a beautiful mixture of cultures that become one. Mari says: I’m completely Latina on my inside which means that nurturing is a huge part of me and the culture I grew up in.
Her native language is Portuguese, yes, Brazil is the only South American Country that is not Spanish speaker (I know that always brings some confusion lol). She is a proud mom of two amazing humans and a fury white ball of love Madison. Mari loves to cook, dance (for a while she was a flamenco dancer) and to sing along, music makes her happy.
Using Mari’s own words: I’m married to a very nerd loving, gentle soul that brings peace to my life and supports me in my choices and I feel tremendously grateful that life brought us together. Moving to Seattle was a huge leap but also a choice for a new beginning and despite missing my family, my friends, the food, I love it!
