Michelle’s Approach to Doula Work

Michelle Mulcahy-Nicholson is a Full-Spectrum Doula proudly serving the Portland Metro area. In her work, she believes that birth is powerful, personal, and deserving of unwavering support. As a Doula, she offers calm, curiosity, and compassion in every space she enters. Whether clients are preparing to welcome their first baby, navigating loss, or anything in between, Michelle is there to walk beside them with respect and care.

Michelle’s Background

Before stepping into birth work, Michelle spent over 15 years as a hairstylist — a career rooted in connection, trust, and supporting people in feeling like their best selves. What she loved most about that time was being a steady, compassionate presence for others during all kinds of life transitions. Becoming a Doula felt like a natural next step for her, combining her deep empathy with a long-standing fascination for pregnancy, birth, and the strength it takes to bring life into the world.

Originally from California, Michelle moved to Portland seven years ago to be closer to family. She arrived just in time to watch her nephew grow up, followed by the arrival of her sweet niece. Portland quickly became home for Michelle. It’s where she met her husband, where they’re raising their fur baby Ozzie (their lovable 10-year-old pup), and where they enjoy camping, hiking, cooking, and spending time with their chosen family.
