Alicia’s Approach to Doula Work
Alicia believes in meeting families exactly where they are—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—while offering grounded, realistic, and evidence-based support. She approaches birth with curiosity and reverence, trusting the innate intelligence of the birthing body and honoring the unique rhythm of every labor. Her goal is to help families feel prepared, informed, and deeply confident in their choices, no matter how their birth unfolds.
Her practice is rooted in both traditional knowledge and contemporary skill. Alicia first studied with Whapio at La Matrona in 2009, an experience that profoundly shaped her understanding of physiological birth and the sacred nature of the childbearing year. Apprenticing with a traditional midwife deepened her hands-on skills and intuitive attunement.
With a strong foundation in movement, pelvic anatomy, and the biomechanics of labor, Alicia supports families in finding positions that create ease, balance, and space in the body. She helps birthing people tune in to their own instincts, rhythm, and natural movement in a way that encourages flow and comfort throughout labor. Her ongoing lactation education supports families well into postpartum, rounding out a truly holistic approach.
Alicia especially enjoys working with families who are curious about their amazing birthing bodies and eager to engage with the intuitive intelligence that guides birth.
Alicia’s Background
Since beginning her studies in 2009, Alicia has pursued a wide range of trainings in birth, postpartum support, herbalism, lactation, and somatic/nervous-system awareness. Her herbalism background informs her postpartum care and her gentle, nature-based approach to supporting healing after birth.
She also works with placentas, offering encapsulation, tinctures, and hand-crafted keepsakes—including placenta art and placenta drums. This work reflects her belief that birth is not only physical but also symbolic and transformative, deserving of reverence, ritual, and remembrance.
Alicia has supported families in home, birth center, and hospital settings, bringing a steady, grounded, and intuitive presence to every environment. Her care centers consent, respect, attunement, and informed choice.
Alicia is a mother of three who treasures simple pleasures, warm home rhythms, and time in nature. She loves cooking nourishing food, crafting with her hands, and savoring the quiet, meaningful moments that root her life. She is drawn to the subtle magic of the everyday and the animate forces that weave through all living things.
These values flow directly into her birth work: Alicia brings warmth, steadiness, and genuine care to every family she walks beside, holding space for birth as both a physiological event and a profound rite of passage.
